Personal Information
Saman Vinke studied medicine at the Radboud University Nijmegen and graduated in 2012 with honours. He started his neurosurgery training at the Neurosurgical Center Nijmegen under Professor André Grotenhuis and in the world renown National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London.
During his training, he specialized in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery and completed a fellowship ‘functional neurosurgery’ at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London under Professor Marwan Hariz, Professor Ludvic Zrinzo, Mr Jonathan Hyam and Professor Patricia Limousin.
Saman is an expert in image-guided and image-verified deep brain stimulation (DBS) and is particularly known for his high innovative potential. He is considered to be one of the pioneers in the application of (computational) neuroimaging in the field of Deep Brain Stimulation. Saman is a frequently asked speaker at international meetings and has been serving as a guest surgeon at many different places around the world to share his expertise.
His research focusses on the exploration of new innovative techniques in the field of functional neurosurgery and the application of (computational) neuroimaging, artificial intelligence, electrical field modelling and translational neuroengineering to tailor neuromodulation therapy to the specific needs of an individual patient. His group is unique in translating basic science to concepts that will benefit patients in daily clinical practice.
