Scientific Interest
My research project focuses on deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease. As the global incidence, prevalence, and burden of Parkinson’s Disease continue to grow globally, it is increasingly critical to determine who is most likely to benefit from this advanced therapy. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, combining data science with qualitative methods, we aim to identify subgroups of people with Parkinson’s who may benefit more from DBS surgery. Also evaluating the differences between DBS surgical methods, like “awake” (under local anaesthesia) and the “asleep” (under general anaesthesia) surgery. This will help minimize patient risk while optimizing healthcare resources in terms of time, cost, and overall benefit.
